Sainte-Victoire as a backdrop
Immortalised by Cézanne, Sainte-Victoire Mountain towers over the Aix countryside with its long limestone cliffs. From the Cabassols car park, the Venturiers trail leads in just over two hours to the Croix de Provence, above 940 metres, for an endless panorama. For a gentler walk, the loop around Bimont Dam reveals turquoise water and a picnic table perfect for a tasty pause.
Thermal baths and parks in town
In the centre of Aix, the Sextius thermal baths recall the town’s Roman origins, as its name comes from Aquae Sextiae. The modern spa, next to the ancient remains, offers treatments for a shared break. A few minutes’ walk away, Jourdan Park, planted with plane trees and pines, hosts local pétanque players and makes you want to sit on a bench and talk at length.
Cengle plateau and Lake Peyrolles
To the east, the Cengle plateau unfolds its vineyards at the foot of the mountain, perfect for a bike ride between two wine estates. A little further on, Lake Peyrolles offers a shaded beach and quiet trails for an afternoon by the water. On Lyad, members from Aix share their favourite hikes; it is up to you to find someone to put on your trainers with.
